After 25 wonderful years of calling Hervey Bay home, I am preparing to leave, but this is not goodbye; it is simply see you soon.

For many years, I have had the privilege of sharing something I truly love with the Hervey Bay community. That is bringing happiness, connection and comfort to children and young people through Ted, my therapy dog and my therapy bunnies.

I have been fortunate enough to work with local schools, special schools, disability agencies and other community organisations. Watching the difference Ted can make has been one of the most rewarding parts of my journey.

I have seen children arrive at school and excitedly call out “Leanne! Ted!” wanting to tell me about their day, something funny that happened at home or even that they went to the dentist the day before. These may seem like little moments, but they mean so much.

Ted gives children something to look forward to. He creates opportunities for connection, conversation and comfort, particularly for children who may find school or social situations challenging.

One of the most special things is being out in the community and having young people who finished school years ago come up to me, remembering Ted and thanking me. Those moments remind me why I started this journey in the first place.

I want to sincerely thank all the school staff, teachers, support workers, families, children and members of the Hervey Bay community who have supported me, trusted me and embraced what I love doing.

You have supported my dream of making a difference, creating beautiful memories, and helping people feel happy, valued, and cared for.

Hervey Bay will always hold a very special place in my heart. 25 years of memories, friendships and connections will never be forgotten.

As I begin my next chapter, I won’t say goodbye. Because you never know, Ted, the bunnies and I might just come back for special events and visits.

So for now, it’s not goodbye…

It’s simply see you soon – Leanne
