Written by Libby Spash – Founding Director of The Little Sanctuary
I started The Little Sanctuary Support Services because I know, both professionally and personally, how important it is for families to have the right support when they need it.
I spent more than 17 years in teaching and leadership roles across Queensland and NSW before spending two years in NDIS Early Childhood Intervention here in Hervey Bay. I’m also a mum of neurodiverse children, so I understand the joys, challenges and sometimes uncertainty that can come with finding the right support for your child.
As a parent, I know how much you want your child to be happy, confident and able to experience life to the fullest. I also understand how overwhelming it can feel when you have concerns about your child and don’t know where to turn, particularly when services have long waiting lists.
These experiences have strengthened my belief in the importance of early intervention and timely support. When children receive the right support early, we can help build their skills, confidence, relationships and sense of belonging, creating opportunities for positive outcomes and a fuller life as they grow.
I wanted to create a place where families could walk through the door and feel welcomed, listened to and understood. A place where children can be themselves, parents can ask questions without judgement, and families can access professional support without waiting months.
Today, The Little Sanctuary provides Psychology, Early Childhood Intervention and Counselling services for children, young people and families in our local community.
Our Psychology services provide assessment and therapeutic support for emotional, developmental, behavioural, learning and social needs. Through Early Childhood Intervention, we work alongside children and families to build skills, confidence and participation in everyday life. Our Counselling services provide a safe space to explore emotions, develop coping strategies and navigate life’s challenges.
My vision is to help increase the number of skilled professionals available in our community, giving families greater choice and access to quality support when they need it.
Ultimately, I want every child and family to feel understood, supported and valued, and to have every opportunity to develop their strengths, build meaningful connections and live a full and happy life.
