Bayside Christian College is entering an exciting new era of growth, opportunity and educational excellence.
The Board of Queensland Baptist Education Company is pleased to announce that Stage 1 of the College Masterplan will commence with the development of The Petra Centre—a striking, contemporary, two-storey Science and Technology Hub designed to transform learning at Bayside and across the Fraser Coast.
The name Petra comes from the Greek word meaning “a mass of rock” and reflects God as our sure, immovable and eternal foundation. Just as Christ is the Rock upon whom we build our lives and our community, The Petra Centre will provide a strong foundation for generations of students to explore, discover and pursue their God-given purpose.
The Centre will feature spacious, highly specialised laboratories supporting Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Marine Science and Forensic Science. It will also include dedicated facilities for Robotics, Coding, Digital Media, virtual reality and emerging information and communication technologies. These innovative learning environments will prepare students for future pathways in science, engineering, health, medicine, psychology, technology and technical training.
A new Café and Hospitality Centre will provide further opportunities for practical learning while creating a welcoming place for fellowship, connection and community. Expansive breakout areas will support collaboration, creativity and an integrated approach to learning.
This significant investment comes as Bayside prepares to open an additional stream of Year 7 students in 2028, creating more opportunities for local families to access a Christ-centred education characterised by aspiration, excellence and care. Enrolments are currently being accepted up to 2031 – apply early to avoid disappointment.
The Petra Centre represents much more than a new building. It is an investment in young people, in the future of education, and in Bayside Christian College’s continuing mission to inspire students and families to know, love and follow Christ. A school inspired by Faith; Driven by Excellence; Defined by Care.
The Petra Centre and Carpark Developments have received significant support from the Queensland Government, with a total of $5.8 million awarded through the Capital Grants Program.
