I have been fortunate enough to call Poona home for more than 20 years. One of the things I love most about living on the Fraser Coast is being surrounded by nature every single day.
I am a keen photographer. In fact, you would probably say I’m obsessed!
I’ve always enjoyed taking photos, but since moving to Poona, my passion has reached another level. The wildlife here is incredible, including an abundance of birdlife, butterflies, and kangaroos; there is always something wonderful to discover. I can’t believe how lucky I am to be doing what I love and living in a small village with people who enjoy nature as much as I do.
I am an early riser, and one of my favourite parts of the day is taking the short walk from my home to the beach to watch the sunrise over K’gari. There is something very special about those quiet moments before the day begins. The soft morning light and the changing colours across the water create perfect conditions for photography, but they are also a beautiful reminder of how lucky we are to live in this part of the world.
I’m inclined to photograph anything that takes my fancy. Photography has taught me to pay attention to the little things that many people walk past every day. It has helped me appreciate the beauty that exists all around us, often in the simplest places.
I do encourage all of you to really take in nature and the beautiful area that we live in. You don’t need to be a good photographer; just admire your surroundings; all it takes is slowing down long enough to notice what’s right around you.
If anyone is interested in my work, I do produce a Wildlife/Scenic Calendar of Poona and the surrounding areas every year. They are wall-hanging on quality paper, and they showcase the area we love. I usually have them available in October each year. Selling for $25 each.
