Helping a stranger in their time of crisis is rewarding, but it’s even more rewarding when you get to meet those you have assisted.

That’s what award-winning local charity Rally for a Cause provides each year by bringing together many of the charity recipients and those who raise funds to assist them.

For the past 12 years, Rally for a Cause has raised funds to help locals diagnosed with life-limiting medical conditions and other tragic circumstances and has now raised more than $5.2 million.

The annual Recipient Dunga Day Out initiative features a fun, mystery one-day Dunga car rally for Dungas and recipients, including community lunches and bonding, aimed at providing joy, gratitude and greater understanding.

Rally for a Cause general manager Scott Rowe said it was one of the annual highlights on the calendar, giving recipients the chance to thank the Dungarians for their support.

“It’s heartwarming for the Dunga Derby participants to be able to show the recipients a mini Dunga event, complete with fun stops, dirt and mud tracks and some games and bonding over lunch.

“Rally for a Cause and the Dunga Derby events are powered by the generosity of local businesses, operational partners and community supporters. This day brings out the best in everybody.

“Every contribution, whether financial, in-kind, or through volunteer hours, directly translates into life-changing support for families across the Fraser Coast and Sunshine Coast.”

Mr Rowe said that when a business chooses to sponsor Rally for a Cause or the Dunga Derby, that support goes far beyond logos on banners or team shirts.

“It means a child can access urgent medical treatment, a family can stay together during a hospital stay, and parents facing unimaginable loss can find comfort and connection.

“Our operational partners keep the wheels turning, our event sponsors create memorable experiences, and our branded asset sponsors ensure every detail is covered.

“The impact of this collective support is visible in every recipient story, every family helped, and every community event. Grassroots fundraising—driven by local businesses, volunteers, and everyday people—remains the heart of our success.”

The Recipient Dunga Day Out event will see more than 120 locals head off at the end of May for the one-day celebration that helps define the caring community in which we live.
