Hervey Bay Neighbourhood Centre

A new initiative focused on connection, confidence and practical skill-building is launching across the Fraser Coast this May, with the Hervey Bay Neighbourhood Centre (HBNC) introducing THRIVE, a month-long program designed specifically for women.

THRIVE responds to growing interest in accessible, women-only opportunities that support both personal and professional development. The program will bring together a range of workshops, information sessions and hands-on learning experiences, all designed to be practical, relevant and easy to engage with.

HBNC Team Leader for Events and Local Learning Network, Michaela Davis, said the program was developed in response to community need.

“The program has been shaped by growing demand for spaces where women can build skills, gain confidence and connect with others in a supportive environment,” Ms Davis said.

“THRIVE is about meeting women where they are. There is no one-size-fits-all approach, just practical tools, meaningful conversations and a community that supports women to grow in a way that works for them.”

The THRIVE program will include a diverse mix of sessions aimed at different interests and life stages. Topics include: menstrual cycle education through ‘Know Your Cycle, Know Your Power’, Women’s Self-Defence, and ‘She Can Tool’, which introduces participants to basic power tools and fishing skills.

Additional sessions will focus on building healthy routines, supporting parents and pre-teens to feel confident and prepared for puberty, and providing guidance for women in business. Workshops such as marketing support for small business owners and ‘Starting a Side Hustle’ aim to equip participants with practical knowledge they can apply immediately.

By offering a variety of entry points, THRIVE aims to remove common barriers to participation and encourage more women to get involved in local learning opportunities.

The program also places a strong emphasis on connection, bringing women together to share experiences, learn new skills and build confidence in a supportive setting.

THRIVE reflects HBNC’s broader commitment to strengthening community wellbeing through inclusive and accessible programs. By investing in opportunities for women to learn, connect and grow, the initiative contributes to stronger families, workplaces and communities across the region.

Women across the Fraser Coast are encouraged to explore the THRIVE program this May and take part in sessions that align with their interests and goals.
