The idea of motherhood can feel intimidating.

Being responsible for a little life is a big deal. From the inconsistent sleep, late nights, and early mornings of the newborn phase to the ‘terrible twos’, the intro into the tweens, to the teens, and beyond, being a mum isn’t a walk in the park.

With all the pressures in society today to conform to cultural trends, the role of motherhood needs to be elevated to the highest calling. Family life, including multi-generational, is being eroded, but the blessings that come from responsible parenting account for much of what is good in a stable society.

It necessitates finding a balance by offering warmth and support while encouraging exploration and independence, providing guidance and freedom to instil self-confidence and resilience.

Proverbs 22:6 (“Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it”) is a biblical principle emphasising early, intentional guidance in godly, moral, and skilful living, rather than a guaranteed promise.

It advises nurturing children in the faith, setting a righteous path, and creating lasting habits that influence them throughout their lives.

Mothers are a good and perfect gift to us! Where would we be without our mums? Whether they’re spiritual mums, biological mums, adoptive mums, or soon-to-be mums, take time to honour the women in your life this Mother’s Day!
