After several months of discussing the deeper mysteries of life, such as our soul’s purpose and life after death, this month I’m sharing some of the unusual and perhaps even spooky things I’ve encountered on my spiritual journey.

People who know me understand that I’m reluctant to believe anything unless it happens to me, or I hear it from a very trusted source. My rational brain is alive and well. However, I will not be disappointed if some readers shake their head in disbelief at what I’m about to describe. Never-the-less, hand on my heart – it’s true.

Let’s start with the old parlour trick of table-tipping. I say ‘old parlour trick’ because table tipping was a popular form of entertainment in England, especially in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Mediumship and psychic phenomena drew large crowds in concert halls, and many mystical seekers held weekly spiritual circles in their own homes (as I have for about 15 years).

Although I’d heard of table tipping before studying at the Arthur Findlay Spiritualist College in England, I was a sceptic.

Here’s why. Table tipping involves a group of four or five people (psychics or mediums) lightly touching the top of a table with their fingertips. There’s no pressure exerted, but with the build up of psychic energy from the participants, soon the table starts to rock on its legs and then ‘dance’ around the room. If the participants remove their fingertips, the table stops.

Crazy, right?

That’s what I thought, until I attended an evening of table-tipping at the College and experienced the wooden table I was lightly touching, rocking and then moving rapidly around the room. There were four of us in our group.

First, I could feel the energy building across the surface of the table. The energy grew until it became a steady vibration, which was followed by the table beginning to rock rapidly and move in a circular direction. It was hard to move fast enough to keep up with it while keeping our fingertips in pace.
Psychic energy, when applied by people who know how to direct it, is powerful, and that night I learned that it can definitely move a wooden table. I attended a couple of these evenings, but the attraction soon wore off. I was there for more serious studies.

The final examples of ‘spooky stuff’ involve Spirit’s ability to focus energy.

My Dad was an electrician, and one night shortly after he died, I was in the lounge room alone, talking to him in my mind about how much I missed him. Suddenly I heard a noise coming from the kitchen, where I discovered the electric jug had been turned on. No-one else in the house was awake, so I made a cuppa to ‘have with my Dad’.

I have many more examples of how our spiritual friends use energy to communicate – flickering lights, radios turning on and television channels changing may be signals your loved ones are close. During a Reiki Masters’ Workshop I was hosting with my friend Julie-Ann, a power-point actually blew out of the wall due to the build-up of energy; however, more on that another time.
