Of all the iconic fashion brands in the world, Zimmerman stands out as the most famous Australian export.
It is a brand I love for its sophisticated femininity, clever colour combinations and delicate original prints. The luxury label was founded by sisters Nicky and Simone Zimmermann in 1991. To date, they have over 56 stores in both Australia and globally, including throughout the United States, United Kingdom, Europe and China. It is astonishingly successful. Valued at $1.5 – $1.75 Billion, it represents the highest-ever valuation of an Australian fashion brand.
Yet they began from humble beginnings. Their parents, Joan and Erich, owned a spray-painting and smash repairs shop. Joan sewed her own clothes, and Simone and Nicky’s, too. The beach was a constant; on weekends, they swam at Cronulla, holidays were spent at Surfers Paradise. It was during those years that their passion for fashion design developed.
