September arrives softly in Hervey Bay. There is a freshness in the air, but it is measured rather than exuberant a quiet sense of renewal that invites us to slow down, breathe deeply and notice the subtle changes around us.
This month, colour follows that same rhythm. Pastels are evolving into coastal washes: diluted, airy tones softened by natural light. Think sea foam mist, shell pink, pale aqua, soft sky blue and coastal mint. These colours feel open and optimistic, but never sweet or juvenile.
Perhaps nowhere is this palette more naturally at home than along our own coastline. Just a short boat trip from Hervey Bay, the beautiful white sands surrounding Pelican Banks create an almost effortless expression of these tones: pale water, endless sky and luminous sand coming together in a landscape that feels both expansive and serene.
For interiors, this palette brings that same sense of breathing space. Used thoughtfully, soft coastal colours can introduce freshness without excess and lightness without fragility. They work beautifully alongside natural timber, linen, woven textures and warm neutral foundations, allowing colour to become part of the atmosphere rather than dominate it.
There is something particularly relevant about this approach for 2026. We are moving away from interiors that demand attention and towards spaces that evolve with us – considered, calm and quietly expressive.
September’s soft tides are a reminder that renewal doesn’t have to arrive loudly. Sometimes, it is simply a change in light, a softer colour, an open window or the feeling of being surrounded by something beautiful.
And here, on the Fraser Coast, that feeling is never far away.
