As an artist and educator, creating a space where people feel comfortable exploring their creativity is something close to my heart. Sharing the experience of painting through small art classes and relaxed sessions such as Paint and Sip offers a wonderful blend of artistic guidance and social connection, making creativity accessible to everyone, regardless of experience or skill level.
For me, being an artist also means continually learning, discovering new ideas and experimenting with different techniques. Art gives us an opportunity to capture a moment, express emotion and see the world from a fresh perspective. Sharing the joy and sense of wellbeing that creating art has given me is what inspired me to become more involved in the community, offering classes and instructing local Paint and Sip sessions.
These sessions bring art and leisure together in a relaxed, welcoming environment. Participants are encouraged to experiment with colour and techniques without the pressure of creating something “perfect”. Often, people surprise themselves with what they can achieve.
The educational side of Paint and Sip may be subtle, but it can have a lasting impact. For some, it becomes a stepping stone to exploring their creativity further. For others, it may reconnect them with a passion they had forgotten or simply give them the confidence to try something new.
As an art educator, I enjoy guiding participants through the painting process, offering practical tips, with encouragement and reassurance along the way. The informal atmosphere allows people to relax, be less judgemental of their work and simply enjoy creating.
There is also something wonderful about the connection that happens around the canvas. Laughter, conversation and shared experiences can lead to new friendships and a greater appreciation for art.
Ultimately, teaching art is about more than technique. It is about nurturing creativity, building confidence and helping people discover the simple joy of creating something themselves.
