Every August, our state comes alive to celebrate Queensland Multicultural Month. It is a time dedicated to recognising and promoting the incredible cultural diversity that makes our communities so rich, vibrant, and resilient. While the official state-wide theme for this year is still under wraps, the core message remains unchanging: our diversity is our greatest asset, and our shared stories are what connect us.
Here on the Fraser Coast, the Hervey Bay Neighbourhood Centre (HBNC) is incredibly proud to lead the charge in fostering an inclusive community where everyone feels a true sense of belonging. Through our Community Action for a Multicultural Society (CAMS) initiative, which is proudly funded by the Queensland Government, we work year-round to build harmony and connection.
But August is when we truly turn up the volume!
To mark Queensland Multicultural Month, HBNC is thrilled to host the third annual Fraser Coast Global Beats & Eats. On Friday, August 14, from 5 pm to 9 pm, Pialba’s Seafront Oval will transform into a bustling global village. This free, family-friendly event invites locals and visitors alike to taste the world and feel the rhythm of our beautifully diverse region.
The evening promises to be an absolute feast for the senses. Attendees can explore a vibrant array of market stalls, featuring unique local crafts and displays. The main stage will be buzzing with spectacular live entertainment, headlined by the incredibly talented Jon Vea Vea, alongside a lineup of dynamic cultural performers. A major highlight of the night will be the Cultural Cooks segment. We are thrilled to announce that the local Thai and Fijian communities have already confirmed they will showcase their traditional culinary secrets, bringing authentic, mouth-watering heritage dishes straight to your plate.
We also invite you to watch the crowd, or join in yourself, for our magnificent Cultural Parade, which showcases the traditions and pride of the many cultures that call the Fraser Coast home. Registration is open now for anyone who wishes to proudly walk and represent their heritage.
We want our local community to be at the heart of the magic. Expressions of Interest are officially open for multicultural food vendors, stallholders, entertainers, and parade participants. Whether you are coming to dance, shop the markets, or sample incredible global cuisines, lock in the date. Let’s come together at Seafront Oval this August to celebrate the rich multicultural tapestry that makes the Fraser Coast such a wonderful place to live.
